YooperJ has the transition as 1951.

But examples of non-chromed bores have been documented into 1952. I haven't looked for a link to confirm a non-chromed 1952, but more than one has surfaced.

And, more than one 1950 has been confirmed with a chromed bore. All depends upon refurbed or original, and maybe even what parts were on hand for assembly. My 1952 definitely has a chromed bore, but my '49 and '50 are non-chromed. Still waiting for the right 1951 to show up. Haven't ever heard of a '53 or newer without chrome.

I have chromed non-refurbs in 1950 and 1951 in my collection. And there are others outthere with the same.
But thanks for the information- They will be selling for a premium on Gunboards as it has now been documented as an extremely rare version.

Just my first search with "chrome" and "1952". I haven't run searches with "non-chromed", "chromed", "not chromed", "without chrome" , "chrome lined" ,"un-chrome". Nor have I searched Gunboards yet.

But there are some early 1952's without chromed bores. I don't own one, but I've seen it a dozen times or more.

My 49 has a 90° gas block, black spike, BBQ paint and a laminate stock. I'm hoping for a better one down the road.

the only thing i saw that happened during refurb is the trigger group was scrubbed and remarked . I need a 49 would be happy with any version :) Only chance to get one is Canada and that won't happen any time soon as the Canadians won't help me get one over the border :) lol A funny story When i was in Special Forces reserves I gave 20 Canadian Paras from 1st Para a class and range shooting on foreign and domestic Military weapons and their first class on Military Ammunition that I put together so they could id ammo found on the battlefield or choose the right round for the right job. They in turn invited some of us to Edmonton to the Para school to go though the school and get Canadian Wings. I met some great guys there and one gave me a ist model FN FAL that they all had in their lockers for jump training. I was supposed to get it before I left. It never happened because I missed the guy before I left. But the end of the story is when our C130 landed back at Pease AFB we were boarded by Military Police with dogs to make sure nothing was smuggled in. I was lucky I did not have the FFL. I had no paperwork for it and none of us were carrying weapons so it would have stood out.
