Mosin Nagant decocker: I think not.

I'm glad I watched the video, I had no idea you could open the bottom of the magazine. :)

Pump shotgun comparo

Cabellas sell them for $500-$600, I've seen them go for $350-450 on the private market. I paid $475 for mine, it was still in its original box, had never been fired and came with a full set of chokes.

Re: Pump shotgun comparo

I like my Browning BPS 12 gauge. The action is smooth, it's accurate and reliable. The cost a little more than some other shotguns but when you use them side-by-side you can tell why, the Brownings are just better built. I got mine from a pawn shop, still in it's original box, for a very reasonable ...

My other toys, .22LR

I've had this for a while, a Marlin Glenfield Golden 50. Purchased by my grandfather-in-law in the OTASKO store, in Blytheville, AR in 1968. I've put many, many rounds through this rifle, it's very accurate and great fun, I love walking soda cans up a roof using it - note - do not try this on an occ...

My other toys, handguns

First, we start with the gun that got me interested in older weapons, a badly beaten up Nambu Type 14. My father in law gave it to me a couple of years ago, at the time it had a section of Marlin .22 barrel on it. I've been hunting parts to return it to firing condition ever since. I'm still missing...

My other toys, Browning BPS

I thought I would share some of my other toys on the appropriate forums. Here we have my 1995 Browning BPS 12 gauge. I've been shooting skeet and sporting clays with it since last December. I'm not that good but not embarrassingly bad either, the important point is I shoot it at least once a week an...

Didn't get to shoot my Mosin at the weekend.

I was reminded I'm halfway through a bathroom renovation that needs to be finished. Oh well. However, I did stock up on ammo ready for my next outing and I took the rifle apart and cleaned it again. I have done that three times now and I'm still getting crud out of it, does that cosmo leach out of t...

Re: Bought my first Mosin Nagant

Thank you, I'm learning. I thought that as the rest of the rifle was force matched using an electro pencil the stamping on the bolt may indicate it was the original. Now I know that the fact the Cyrillic letters are missing proves it to be re-numbered. It's interesting to wonder why the bolt was sta...

Re: Bought my first Mosin Nagant

The range is happy with FMJ, the trouple with mil surp is that they say it has a steel core, that can damage their backstops. I stripped and cleaned the rifle Saturday. It is in amazing condition, the barrel is flawless and as far as I can tell the bolt is the original, I can find no evidence that i...

New Mosin, Range Report

I took my new toy to the range yesterday after spending Saturday stripping and cleaning it. No Mil Surp ammo allowed at that range so I had some Silver Bear 174 grain with me. I fired 55 rounds with no mechanical problems. The rifle never misfired, it never failed to load. I was shooting 2 inch grou...

Re: Trigger "slop" Why so much

I picked up my first Mosin today, it has no slack on the trigger at all. The trigger isn't light, but it has a nice smooth action, is this normal or has it been modified?

Re: Bought my first Mosin Nagant

Thank you all, this is my first Mosin, I bought it based on advice given on my first thread here, and the reading of the Introduction that I did, credit goes to the authors of those posts and articles. I don't have surplus ammo yet, the store I bought the rifle at sells it in cans and crates at very...

Re: Buying my first Mosin Nagant

Yes, I am very lucky, my boss is an avid collector and we have a gunsmith in the machine shop. I need to take the whole kit into work, the bayonet doesn't fit the barrel, it needs reaming out a little. :D

Bought my first Mosin Nagant

A follow-up to my earlier post, the barrel/receiver is 1940, the stock is 1939, here's some photos. Now I start on the cleaning and learning exactly what it is I have. http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/qq75/MikeBcos/Mosin/DSC_3235.jpg http://i435.photobucket.com/albums/qq75/MikeBcos/Mosin/DSC_3234....

Re: Buying my first Mosin Nagant

Thanks again for all the comments. Hopefully my non-citizen background checks will be completed today and I can pick it up tonight. I'm looking forward to taking it apart for its first cleaning tonight and tomorrow. I'm fortunate to I work for an Engineering company with a large machine shop, they'r...

Buying my first Mosin Nagant

Thank you all for your replies. I went and picked my gun tonight, the store had 12 in a case so I played with them all, I got a nice bolt mechanism and a good, clean barrel. The rifle comes with four ammunition pouches, bayonet, sling, cleaning kit and an oil bottle. Unfortunately as I am not a US C...

Buying my first Mosin Nagant

I've been reading this forum for a few weeks now, one of my local favourite gun stores has six Mosins for sale, I intend buying one on Saturday. I've learned the basics of the arsenal marks etc but can anyone give me any pointers as to what to look for to make sure I get the best one available? A li...
