Re: My First Mosin
Fantastic. I'm betting Mosins may not be your only toys. I've convinced myself that the Mosins are worth having, not just because they are inexpensive, but because they are really fine firearms. Amazing since they produced how many gazillions over the years? Toyata must have learned all they quality...

Re: My First Mosin
I just realized why I like you guys so much. You are just like classic Buickmowners. The Chevy and Ford guys are content to own just one. Us Buick folks just can't do that. We have to have at least two, sometimes more. I've had as many as four at one time. Seems like mosin folks are the same way. I'...

Re: My First Mosin
The stock on your non refurb looks the same as mine. The seller claimed it had never been fired. With a vibropeened bolt I was questioning that claim. No "x boxes" anywhere that I could see, but I know that doesn't always mean non refurb.this one is a 46. The seller added white out to enha...

Re: My First Mosin
Thanks, my toys are my joys. Sounds like you made a great find too. I did go to,the gun show today. And yes I have the virus. I bought a leather ammo puch for $10 and a bayonet for $15. Just got to thinking, am I out of line quoting prices here? Haven't noticed anyone else doing it but me. On the re...

Re: My First Mosin
It has taken years to collect them all. Quite a chore keeping them all running, but hey, I'm retired. I do ride quite a bit and there's plenty of local car shows. Just finished an 81 Vette that I'm going to deliver to my brother in Texas at Christmas time. He' ll drive it while its up for sale. Swee...

Re: My First Mosin
Thanks. Based on all the comments I beginning to think I did pretty well, at least for my first purchase. I have to admit, I probably have latent paranoid tendencies ... Or maybe I just like guns ... Or both.

Re: My First Mosin
You guys are all great. The head space gauges are a great suggestion. You guys are sure right about adding to the collection. I'm the same way with my cars and bikes. I currently have 6 bikes after giving one to my little (50 yr old) brother. One thing tho, as most probably didn't read my intro post...

Re: My First Mosin
Wow. You guys are super. Educate me here. So during manufacture back in the day, the same guy with the same stamp set would serialize all the major components? I know that these things required more hand built work and time back then. In today's ' manufacturing world, with various parts made in diff...

Re: My First Mosin
Thanks. Does it look like a forced match/over strike refurb. I'm no forensic scientist but having been an engineer with a fair amount of metallurgy in years, I'm not seeing any post manufacture type machining or grinding marks under the s/n'. Not sure they would have felt the need to be so painstaki...

My First Mosin
image.jpg Just joined yesterday so I'm a Noob. I'll try to attach some pictures and maybe you guys can offer some comments. I've researched the armory markings but so many of them are "unknown". I'm enjoying digging into the history of these firearms and would love to build a book on mine...
