Re: Classic just dropped the bomb.

Disassemble the bolt. If this was an ex Burns rifle, they are usually clean, but the bolt is packed with grease. As with every firearm I get the first thing I did was completely disassemble and clean it. The stock was nice and clean (looks like cos never touched it) But I definitely wouldn't say th...

Re: Classic just dropped the bomb.

Bore and crown are in like new condition and nothing but a very small amount of dry cosmoline came out when I patched it. Can't say I have ever owned a firearm where literally nothing (other than a little cos as said) came out of the bore before this. http://i390.photobucket.com/albums/oo344/351must...

Did you pay for the hangtag option or did they just send you one with a hangtag? Pictures?

Re: School me. Late date/no date vs B barrel

Trust me I understand that pretty well everything is on a case by case basis. I was more asking if in general or on average with all other things being equal if you guys thought there was any truth to the belief that the build quality was higher on the late date no maker rifles as many others seem t...

Re: Christmas day rabbit.

Pic of said BB gun? The BB gun I used as a kid was a cheap powerline 880 that my young nephew went ahead and destroyed for me... Now the only BB gun I have is one of the old B3 rifles harbor freight use to sell. The firearm used in this hunt however was the 1964 Ruger standard pictured below. (Sorr...

Very nice! You are a lucky man.
I have wanted to add one to the collection for a while but never got around to it and might never at this point. Congrats on the sweet rifle.

Christmas day rabbit.

I didn't realise this site had a hunting and fishing forum... Well now that I found it you can expect some post of my adventures. Here is some pics from my first successful small game hunt since I was a kid with a bb gun. Set out on Christmas morn determined to get a wabbit dinner. Walked around all...

Happy new year! I didn't get to do much since the flood water pretty much has me trapped but I did get to make some bangs and booms at midnight at least. Happy New Year everyone!!! Now who bought a new addition to their collection???? :pointleft: I also have an M39 coming as well as a scope for the ...

Re: School me. Late date/no date vs B barrel

Thank you dolk. I really appreciate you taking the time to help clear things up for me.
Especially nice to hear from someone I am sure has or has had both and can actually compare or has some reference to build quality.

School me. Late date/no date vs B barrel

So I have heard a lot of talk about the later 60's on no date M39's being made to a MUCH higher standard being that they were made out of war time and weren't rushed out at all. Also that they were made for everything from training to marksmen comp and sniping and had special target barrels (not so ...

Re: Classic just dropped the bomb.

Ammo depot has new copper washed non corrosive Mosin food for 47 cents/round. I actually just got 600 rounds of non corrosive (MILITARY CLASSIC) for ¢34 a round with free shipping from Brownells by catching what I am pretty sure was a mistake they had made. They did try to cancel my order without t...

Re: Classic just dropped the bomb.

Even though I have wanted an M39 for a while I have been holding out on what Classic was offering for the price but today they got me to bite when they dropped what I really wanted in the form of unissued B barrels. Hopping my patience has paid off and can't wait to find out.

Re: WWII P38 worth shooting or to flawed a design?

My war time CYQ made in December of 1944 has had over a dozen boxes fired thru it, never a single malfunction and is in the same condition as when I aquired it. Being a genuine wartime firearm its actually a favorite of everyone at the range . :2cents: (sold my 63 production P38, was not a P1 even,...

Re: WWII P38 worth shooting or to flawed a design?

Well went to a gunshow today to pick up one of the parts I needed to get her up and running (firing pin retainer pin) and then tested fired it with a box of fed champ 115gr and all went well other than the fact I still need the springs I ordered to get the trigger to reset and the rear sight has a l...

Thankfully caught it in time.
The bank thought the $300+ charge to the malaysia airlines was a little fishy so they put a stop to it.
