Re: Type 44 Arisaka

Thanks for the reply. I went on Numrich's this morning. I forgot to add that this is chambered in 6.5mm. This may affect the size of the bolt face? but the internals, and I would certainly think the safety knob would be the same. I sold a "parts" T99 to a friend recently. I think he still ...

Type 44 Arisaka

Hey guys, At my place of employment I am known as the go to guy for firearms information and help fixing, etc. Recently our part time "consultant" brought in "the rifle" he has always talked about but never remembers what it is. (He is 72). The story behind it is pretty cool: His...

Re: 1942 Izhevsk

The owner said he refinished the stock, so I assume it isn't an original refurb anymore.

I decided to pass on this one, and squirreled the money away for my next pistol instead. I need to stop carrying this German PPK/s before I ruin it!

Re: 1942 Izhevsk

Do you have to pay shipping and dealer fees as well? Never mind, I didn't pay attention when you implied locally, haha. I would personally hold off a little bit till I could get one that hasn't been altered for the same price. Maybe you could talk him down a bit? Yeah it is a local gun :) I could p...

1942 Izhevsk

Hey guys, I've only had my '43 Izhevsk for a month or so and I am already on the look out for another if one pop's up locally. Well, one did. I am looking for opinions on it and if the price is reasonable. I know pricing is subjective, but bear with me: It is a 1942 Izhevsk, round receiver, force ma...

Re: Go gauge fail

This thread is a great read. I've only ever checked the head spacing on my Yugo M59/66. I really should buy some gauges for my Mosin... Especially because I can't hold out much longer before I end up buying another one!

Re: Progressively harder cocking

I agree with the guys above. Don't make any more judgements about the bolt until you run about 60 rounds through it. The first 10 or so rounds I fired had more than half of them result in a hard bolt to open. After I cleaned the rifle again it started working better. The more I shot it/cleaned it, t...

Re: Bayonet doesnt fit, and tools

Elby sight tools at the top of the page sells sight tools and the bayo oi would try spreading it further with a punch or other object that can fit inside with a taper for spreading. If you go to far you can close it with pliers or vise grips i think. :D Yupper spread it with big pin punch till it f...

Re: new owner, new pics and a story

They are a late war/mostly post war replacement stock . Technology they saw the Germans using and tried it themselves, Russia had no shortage of hard wood blanks for rifle stocks and no real pressing need to push laminated stocks. The post war built m44's did not have them unless they were used as ...

Re: new owner, new pics and a story

The "K" is the point of aim proof. Heres a list of markings that can be found all over the guns. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinMarks01.htm I think he meant his was on the stock and that proof is usually on the barrel shank. Oh and I just saw something. The original poster asked if the ...

Re: new owner, new pics and a story

I have been telling the story that the Russians used laminate stocks towards the end of the war, and post war during refurb because they are cheaper and more durable than the wood stocks. Is this true/mostly true? I understand the rifle "is what it is" now, but I think it's fun to see what...

Re: new owner, new pics and a story

Thanks guys.

The more I read and learn it appears the laminate stock is at least a better conversation piece if nothing else. Noone I've shown the rifle to (locally) has ever seen or heard of a laminate stock! I've grown to like it!

new owner, new pics and a story

Hey guys. Last week I picked up my first M91/30. I'm an avid collector of things other than firearms, but most recently firearms have become a passion. I can see 1 or 2 more of these "cheap" rifles in my future already! I decided on a whim to buy this rifle for $140 as this is the going ra...
