Re: Judi is back, Musée de l'Armée, Cosacks, Mosins, SKS ?

Welcome back Judi! That snow you saw on TV was in my home town. 6+ feet, yes I said feet :beek: in some areas... about 5 miles south of my house. Me? I got about 8 inches of snow. :vcool: 2014 was a slow year of collecting for me. Only picked up 3 Mosins, the coolest being the 1954 Hungarian M52. :D...

Re: Just Bought Sniper

Interesting rifle from the few photos we have. Can you take more? We love photos! Based on what I can see, it appears to have original bluing. It is a 1944 Izhevsk. The scope does not appear to be original or is a variant of the PU scope I have not seen before.

Re: irritated

I've shot 100's of rounds of modern manufactured PPU with zero issues of possible corrosion. I typically clean those rifles when I get home or the next day, but there have been occasions when I only fired 20 rounds through it that I've waited until after the next time I go shooting, which could be a...

They were selected to be sniper rifles is the accepted theory. Same as the CN marked rifles. Someone will correct me if I'm slightly off in the description.

Re: Tikka highwall 91/30

These were made by the Finns in 43 and 44, pretty sweet rifles. The Finn's never built their own receivers though... I agree it had to have been built post war, but even more cool that it was on a receiver built later in the war and then captured. This is like a "new" receiver to the Finn...

Re: M27 stock

Interesting. I have an M28 that I am told is in an M27 stock (originally). The Finns used this stock when they "refurbished" the M28, so now it belongs to this rifle. I have one of those M28/30 stock blanks with no metal and no holes drilled. I'm currently working on mating it to my only M...

Re: Annual Thanksgiving range day

Tim, what distance were you shooting this beauty? That looks like good shooting to me. Right in the kill zone. It was only 100 yards. I agree, accuracy is certainly still good enough to be used in the rifles intended role, but out at greater distances I'm sure accuracy would need to be measured in ...

Re: Rare rifle? This marking what does it mean?

It's hard to make out what I'm looking at with the shinny non-original looking finish on the stock. I'm surprised the yellow didn't come off when it was applied. Looks like maybe a letter to designate something. Not sure what. Edit - what are the details on the rifle in question. Model, maker, year,...

Re: Annual Thanksgiving range day

Ah so... :facepalm1: I thought virtually all got sent back to Mother Russia at the end of their service life unless they were used by the Finn's. BTW, where's the snow on the ground? I thought that you guys got hit hard? This one was made by the Hungarians. I live about 10 miles north of where the ...

I haven't tried either of mine out they are 1943 and 1944r dated refurbs.
Joe,

That's because this rifle isn't refurbished or Russian. :bwink: This one is dated 1954. :D

Annual Thanksgiving range day

Just another quick range session. This time with the M52 sniper. I finally found some .311 and .312 copper jacketed bullets to load for this rifle. It was time to test them out! I set up at 100 yards. I'm happy with the results knowing that the muzzle end of the rifling is pretty worn. I was noticin...
