It's a '42 with a blued bolt, kinda controversial, you be the judge:

Re: hand guard

I've got an M-44(refurb with M-38 handguard) and a 91/30(non refurb) both with the brass endcaps. In my opinion it really sets them apart from the others in terms looks, I like em! And since :worthless: http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h456/drabnor/m44.jpg http://i1110.photobucket.com/...

Re: Finn but not marked?

Leave it be, but it makes me wonder how Bubba bent the bolt without using heat that would damage the blue, or leaving marks in the blue from whatever he used for leverage when the bending was done. oh there are marks, the ball was put in a vice with no padding :angry4: that's one of the reasons I M...

Re: non refurb M44

Ignore the crack in the handguard, it's not going anyplace, issued Soviet M44's are not near as common as thr refurb ones, That is a great looking as issued in WW2 M44. If the price is good then grab it, I would have done so already :) I thought it looked like it was in great shape also, will be pi...

non refurb M44

Hi guys, I have the opportunity to pick up a possible non refurb m44. Thought I'd get your opinions before I commit to it. "For Sale is a Russian 1945 M-44 with wartime stock and first pattern bayonet lug. This Rifle looks like it caught the end of WW2 as it has that been there done that look t...

Re: Finn but not marked?

Getting the bolt handle straight is not looking good. :angry4: "Straightening the handle is no problem, but to make it as straight and tapered as original with no kinks or flat spots I would have to do some welding and filing which would mess up the blue (however only at or near the handle, the...

Re: Finn but not marked?

^ I hope that settles all the nay-sayers, been quiet since its been posted  I got a chance to take her to the range, and she shoots great. Bent bolt makes it harder to work the action but seems to be smoothing out. Looking into having a pro unbend the bolt... 10 inch gong at 100 yds got 2 ...

Re: Finn but not marked?

I think the thing I like best about this rifle is the lack of cosmoline! It smells completely different than my refurbs.

Also wanted to ask about cleaning, will mineral spirits be ok for the blued bolt? Or is that even necessary since there is no cosmo? Just clean with hoppes?

Re: Finn but not marked?

Man, something in my gut is telling me that it should be left alone. It ain't hurtin anything. I don't know. I guess you can if you want but you can't make it right, and any attempt to straighten it may leave a crease or "wobble" look to it. Some might not agree. It's staying as is...

Re: Finn but not marked?

The first rifle in that second set of pics is a M44. The bolt has to be carefully heated and straightened, this is a job best left to a gunsmith, or you could just replace the bolt, they run around $40 , I think Liberty tree has some. Whoops! He sold one of those also, deleted the pic to remove con...

Re: Finn but not marked?

Other than what was in the first post, the seller was not trying to sell much of a story, This was how he bought it many years ago. Admitted it might not be a Finn but might have been another countries pickup. Yes the bolt is blued, and has a nice patina to it. Unfortunately yes, the bolt handle was...

Re: Does C&R provide significant enough savings for you?

No brainer for me. My local shops want $170+ for a 91/30 refurb, which can be had for $90-120+ shipping from the distributors.

Plus you get discounts at certain places too...

Finn but not marked?

Hi everybody, I have the opportunity to pick up what is believed to be a Finn captured 91/30. I just want to get the consensus of the board before I buy it. Here is the story: "This is a WW2 Finn captured rifle, but is not [SA] or D marked, which means it was probably taken from the hands of a ...

Re: new acquisition, 1944 M44 Izhevsk showcase submission?

And I got to take her to the range today! She shoots great! Bayo out or bayo in, didn't seem to matter much. Wife liked shooting it better than my 12 gauge Remington 1100. Handguard came loose and slipped forward but other than that no issues.
