Re: Arisaka Type 99receiver hole?
I haven't seen many Type 99 stocks for sale retail/parts or otherwise, if making it original again is your goal, I would locate a cheap type 99 with good wood and a ground mum. You may get even get lucky and find some one who did a sporter job and have one floating around. You may get the value, bu...

Re: Arisaka Type 99receiver hole?
I've seen websites where new stocks are actually manufactured in Japan for restoration in the states, not cheap though. If the barrel has not been cut on that rifle it's a prime candidate for restoration, the metal is great. The price on the Numrich site was 142.00, but they're sold out. The bolt i...

Arisaka Type 99receiver hole?
What's the deal with the hole in the top of the receiver just behind the Mum? I read it's to vent gas, but why? This is a Frankenrifle that I want to restore if I can find a stock for it. It's mounted in, what I think is, an M1 carbine stock. Blueing looks OK. It's a Type 99 7.7mm I want to try to m...

Re: Tokarev SVT-40
Well, once again this forum has proved to be valuable financially to me. And valuable in knowledge and experience. Talked me out of it, because it sounds too finicky for me. I'll stick with the bolt actions for now.

Re: Selling vs Buying
I used to sell off some of my guns occasionally when I was younger. About 10 years ago I sold a nice Marlin 1895 and Ruger Vaquero (both .45 long colt) combo. The minute they left my hands I realized that I regretted it. So ever since then I have an iron clad rule to NEVER sell any firearm I own. I ...

Re: Self Control Starts Now
Good luck, self control starts with staying out of gunshops, I said the same thing years ago then one day saw a Mauser pistol with a soldiers name written in the holster, so much for self control. It took having a child too set my priorities. You have the fox (wolf) in the hen house problem, going ...

Cool. Plus the reviewer is just the kind of guy I'd like to have for a next door neighbor.

Re: Tokarev SVT-40
I like them also but the 700 is out of the question. I'm betting on luck i guess. They are only like $200 bucks in canada as they can import them there and the us will not allow it. Cross the border and hook up with a canadian that has a pal license and then sneak it back across the border. I think...

Re: Tokarev SVT-40
I could do the 7-800.00. But I still need to get the RGUN Mosin Sniper too. 2K would put me out of the gun buying phase for a long time, but I think it would be worth it. I especially like the history of these rifles, just like the Mosin history.

Tokarev SVT-40
No I don't have one. Yet. But I've been doing a little bit of studying at the University of Google and I'm thinking that I'd really like to have one. So, does anybody here have one? Or can anybody fill me in on them? Availability, general price range, etc?

Re: what happened to the price of surplus ammo
Which website for the "Armory" for the ammo? Look here http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=485 for some more info. on these before you order. Depending on where you are the shipping can be a killer. The-Armory is in Virginia Beach so they're good for the eas...

Re: M91 Cavalry Carbine
I had a list like that once, problem is that when you get to the last rifle you then learn of ten more that you must have, then another ten, and another.....:) But it sure is fun. Only problem rifle I see on the list will be the M14, original US M14 rifles are select fire, and the few available are...

Re: M91 Cavalry Carbine
Sb you are acquiring a nice collection. I know you are proud of them and it looks like you have been beating the bushes looking for relics. I love the roller coaster rear sight. 8-) 8-) Thanks. I want to get a bolt action rifle carried by each of the major players in WWII. So I still need (in the o...

Re: Anybody know any Italian?
For many years after WW2 there was a great deal of prejudice against the Carcano, and Arisaka. I have heard them called every name there is, and of course the " never fired, and only dropped once" bit. With the Japanese rifles there were some last ditch rifles that were unsafe, and becaus...

Re: 91/38 Carcano?
And so my quest begins............. :geek: Very, very best of luck. I've been poking around for an M38 Moschetto T/S handguard for almost a year. I think all Carcano handguards are made of unobtanium. Here's a link with 91/28 handguards for 15.55. Don't know if they'll fit your M38 though. I went a...

Re: 91/38 Carcano?
I looked at Small Arms of the World, your rifle with that rear sight and the rest of the configuration looks like a Moschetto Ballila or 6.5mm Model Youth Rifle, a model that does not fire ball ammunition, also an example missing the handguard and bayonet. Small Arms indicated it would have a barre...

Re: 91/38 Carcano?
So, it should have a handguard, right? It looks like there is a little lip on the barrel strap for one, but I don't know. If there used to be one on it, it's been gone a long time. I'm also curious about the lack of any importers marks or anything. Do ya'll think it's one of those that came over her...

Re: 91/38 Carcano?
It is a calvary carbine M91/38 martin one place made them with the old sights It's dated 1936. It should be an M91 Moschetto per Cavalleria, Manfuctured at R.E. Terni from 1928 - 1937. You are right, it is dated 1936. My mistake, my eyes aren't what they used to be, but I should have caught it when...
