Re: Yet another PU Sniper authentication check
Looks like a legit refurbished sniper. That said I see no refurb stampings on the rifle or the stock. That doesn't mean that it did not go through refurbishment. The rifle itself is a sniper based on the scope s/n on the left side of the shank. The EP'd s/n on the scope mount matches up with the ri...

Re: M91/38 Mosin Nagant
This was my collection of 91/38's before I sold them all off. Based on my experience, you are likely to find 91-38's with shank dates from 1891 through 1920. I have never personally fondled one earlier than 1894 though. I had them with steel stock bolts, wooden stock bolts and no stock bolts. The we...

Refinishing the stock is out of the question. It would be nice to see the gun though. Without pictures it does not exist. Pictures of the entire rifle and all the matching points could tell us a lot.

Re: New user, new PU authenticity check :)
It's hard to say anything about this. To me the stock looks sanded. The metal looks refinished. I see no markings on the scope. The cutouts for the mount look new. The shank information is not visible nor any of the serial numbers. Is it a bubba? Chances are better than 50% in my book. I'd run from ...

Re: What should I do with this stock?
I saw this one on GunBroker. The current stock is firewood IMHO. Best to wait for the real thing to show up. One will eventually and it will cost a fortune. And that's not the ski-trooper stock. I've never seen one of these for sale by itself before. And then there is the additional hardware and par...

I've actually thought about trying to filter the grease out of it leaving relatively decent mineral sprits behind. Haven't tried it yet

Re: New User Needs Help Identifying PU Sniper!
The scope looks correct but I suspect that the gun was put together at Tulsky or during refurbishment based on the electro penciling. The rifle itself was a true sniper at one time. Even though the scope number on the left side of the shank was crossed out, the rifle was surely a sniper at some poi...

Re: New Owner of Inherited Russian Mosin
Doesn't look like nickel plating to me. It looks like someone has removed all the bluing, and used a wire wheel and buffer on it, at least the shank. The only way you can determine the finish on the metal is to test a cold blue on it. If nickel the blue won't take. And cold blue can be easily remov...

Re: New gun laws.
We would hope so... But, as far as I can tell, the SC has done nothing good in the last 100 years except throwing out Roe vs. Wade... I have little trust in them even though there is a "conservative" majority. The only issue would be how soon they would hear the case and how quickly victim...
