Historic Finnish consumables......NOT VODKA!!

Any history nuts out there? Like DUH!!! I have two questions 1) While cleaning the preservative out of one of my recent purchases, I notice it has a distinct pine oil smell. What's in the 20th century Finnish version of "cosmoline"? 2) I read somewhere recently that one edge the Finns had ...

Re: Illinois resident needs gunshop search location ideas!

Should not be a problem, provided you can deal with any waiting period there is. (Theoretically non-existant if you have a license.). Check these out: http://www.nssf.org/factsheets/PDF/ContiguousStateRestrict.pdf and http://www.atf.gov/firearms/industry/tip-of-the-month-2010.html. However, the adva...

Re: My "brood" or, "Lucky I'm not married!"

:soapbox: What is the date on the tang ? Very good finds you have there. Judi and her Mosin's ;mywink; After getting it out of the stock and wiping away 60-70 years (?) of grease, the maker and year saw the light of day once again. Drum roll please......brbrbrbrbrbrbrbrUM! TADA! Tula 1908! ((it IMG...

Re: My "brood" or, "Lucky I'm not married!"

I'm working on that. Here is a pic of the non-Finnish marking on the receiver ring if the '41 VKT. I know its not possible to say any one weapon saw combat, but considering how this one's stock is "beat to hell" from the wrist back, and almost the entire come, I would say this one has seen...

My "brood" or, "Lucky I'm not married!"

Let me introduce you. Top to bottom: 1941 VKT with a full Imperial crest on the receiver ring, over-stamped with a rework stamp from the Budapest Arsenal, Hungary. Next is my first purchase, a 1942 Sako, and finally, a 1944 VKT in nearly new (at least as far as a M39 can be considered as such) condi...

Re: Want to start loading, have some stuff

I take that back.......its a priming tool. Old style. Now a days, if you don't have a turret press or a C press (like you have) with a priming attachment, reloaders will use a hand held primer. I use a Lee thumb primer tool. It has a tray that holds 100 primers. You insert the case, squeeze the leve...

Re: Want to start loading, have some stuff

Dies are a standard size externally. From the angle of the picture, the other tool reminds me of a Berdan de-capper, though I could be wrong. You've got some pretty heavy duty presses there. I started off with a single die press........slow, but very good to learn on, as working with certain dies re...

Re: Nagant revolver.......OK I screwed up

Now that you mentioned it, I don't believe I've ever seen a "real" m1895, as in not refurbished. The ones I see are the overhauled ones. I guess the Russians didn't realize that exporting a small percentage in real life used condition might have made them some more money from collectors. I...

Nagant revolver.......OK I screwed up

Six or eight months ago, I could have gotten one or more Nagants from our local Gander Mountain for $110 each. I thought I'd wait.........BIG MISTAKE. Now, even the big distributors don't seem to have them. Were they all abducted by aliens? I can hardly find one on the auction sites! Amazing......th...

Nope......not it. Look at "Other Countries" http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinMarks03.htm Line 13 column 3. I also found pics in my history files - I hope I added them correctly!

New to this site and looking for some info

Hi all......I new to this site, and to Mosin Nagants.......always wondered what anyone saw in Russian mass production..........at least until I read up on M39s! Now THATS my idea of product improvement. The lines are superb, the design alterations ingenious........and talk about recycling!!!! Pat Bu...
