Re: M38 stock availability

Try to recall the buttplate usually has a serial on it too. Changing buttplates to other stocks sometimes really stands out and can be hard to hide. Decent M44 stocks are not that hard to find I just sold a nice one awhile back for $100 with hand guard included and rear band too. They are out there ...

Re: M91 options

M91's never had scopes on them. Scopes and snipers started after the M91/30's came out. Dolk you of all people should have known better than to never say never! I have been bitten by that never word so often I almost without fail try to leave myself a way out of things like that. Bill PS I kn...

Re: M91 options

Scope not likely although if it is SA marked and was owned by the Finns anything is possible. Slings are multiple as the Finns and Russians often used what they had. Bayonet the slotted ring type although the spring type shorter one is often seen on an M91 and the slotted ring ones are getting might...

Re: How did you start your collection?

Yeah the top car is a sports racer and I think I see an SCCA sticker on the side of it. I am way too big to fit in most of those because they are what they call tub built seats and making more room in them requires way too much chassis and body cutting. There was a couple of Brothers that came from ...

Re: How did you start your collection?

Jim more than likely that track turned flea market was old Englishtown raceway in central NJ. Lets see Bridgport dirt track is still running as is New Egypt Speedway. I actually announced at New Egypt when it was an asphalt track. It was Nascar way back then and we had the likes of the Bodine Brothe...

Refurbed Mosins routinely vary a 1/2 inch or more either way long or short. Nothing unusual at all about that. Bill

Re: New film / WW1 "They Shall Not Grow Old"

My buddy Joe and I went to see it last night and I will say after a big meal in a Chinese buffet I only blinked my eye twice. There is a 1/2 hour technology brief after the documentary and do be sure you stay for that. Many of the dummies who came in late left without knowing about it early. Really ...

Re: M39-1968 rifle

Yeah I have two of those groups of four and an extra also some how I just seemed to be in the right place at the right time? I also for the 48th M39 picked up a 48 date one which I just realized I have yet to shoot? It was the most expensive one I have bought too but it being the latest reflects the...

Re: How did you start your collection?

Bill, maybe you knew the Romak's when in open wheel formula cars. I don't know that name but we are on different coasts so that may explain it. I only have a desire to get in the car again for one track and one turn and it is in Cali though. The Corkscrew at Laguna Seca. I laid eyes on it once and ...

Re: M39-1968 rifle

Never met an M39 I didn't like! Congrats and enjoy. I find they all shoot with great and some what different degrees of accuracy. Try to tighten the action in such away that the barrel floats in the barrel channel especially at the muzzle end. That is what works for me. I am sure others will give yo...

Re: Have a chance to buy a PU what do you think

Yeah you paid too much and yeah its a Molot and yeah its got the dang straps run through the mount like most repro's did. But you know what you bought it and are going to shoot it and wanted one. Soooo who really gives a Rat's butt what I think! If it shoots good and you enjoy it and you paid for it...

Re: They're Back!

All in all, typical yet overpriced refurbs. I eliminated most of the quote necause the only thing that really counted was yours and others similar opinion toward the current price raises going on in the market today. Cases are available now for around $2500 plus on refurb 91/30's So figure in shipp...

Re: How did you start your collection?

40 years? You got into it late Bill. You forget I actively raced cars till the late 90's and raised a family and sent 2 to college so there wasn't much money or time left for guns. Bill  Milsurps could be had for ten bucks in the 70's, some of them, you couldn't even manage one little milsurp?...

Re: How did you start your collection?

Simple! I bought a rifle, then I bought another rifle and pretty soon I had a bunch of rifles, mostly Mosins but with a few others too. Sometimes I bought a bunch of rifles but most times I bought 1 or 2. Story really started 40 or so years ago and hasn't stopped yet. Bill :D

Re: New film / WW1 "They Shall Not Grow Old"

A very dapper looking couple there! I guess now I'll have to find where that is playing near me. We get few new or trial movies like that here in WV as they look on us as a kind of backward and slow state. We all like our guns though and that is why I live here. December 17th hmm that's a Monday. Bill

Re: Deutsches Reich stamped 1905 Izhevsk M91 w/Original Stock

Note how on the mag box they did the removal of the blue while the mag door was out of the box. The box stopped removal because I guess they didn't know how to remove the swivel. The blue near it is much more intact. I have seen many strip jobs where they apparently went over the areas they removed ...

Re: Deutsches Reich stamped 1905 Izhevsk M91 w/Original Stock

Who stripped the bluing off the receiver and magazine (and other parts)? This is unfortunately a good question. First off let me say if this gun had not been messed with, overly cleaned and a lot of other things to make this gun more palatable to the previous owner it would be maybe a $1000 rifle. ...

Re: Cleaning the furniture

If that is the wood you are thinking of heavy cleaning anything to my thoughts past what you now have will destroy any original finish and value that you now have. Only thing I would do with that wood is wipe it with Balistoll and repair the crack to the forestock by the barrel band clip. It isn't a...

Re: Barrel Bands / Screws

Many years ago Alsky found what we both thought were meant to be replacement screws for stripped or broken or just worn out screws in hand guard bands. The normally peened over ends were straight and unpeened. I tried a couple of ways to peen the ends over and make them recaptured in the band body b...
