My ex-wife had the same complaints! I don't miss her much at all and anybody who has been in my shop will tell you it stinks nice in there. Billbunkysdad wrote:Oh dang, my wife don't like it either. how she can not like the smell of Hoppes #9 is beyond me.

Re: Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit
The Smoky Mt. herd is flourishing, started with around 60 and they now number over 500 I believe. They are seen often in downtown Cherokee, a few stay 2 miles from my house. They have spread into a 40 mile radius, the original released herd's area has a dozen 6x6 or larger bulls and are wearing out...

Re: Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit
Sounds like you have a logical and sound plan to shoot and hunt with this rifle and I wish you luck! I wasn't meaning to personally attack you but just making a general statement about what some people try and do with their Mosins and for no reason other than to prop up their egos and abilities to s...

Re: Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit
Yeah I had long ago thrown anything from Mr Smith away as useless and far too permanent for me. I have an ABS stock that contains a homeless 91/59 action I bought many years ago for $30. I came upon the ABS stock in a trade for a misplaced M91 living in it. I restocked the M91 and lacking any other ...

Re: Bulgarian pine cone marking on Soviet Izhevshevsk?
Those pics I can see it but the others my eyes fail to see that. I thought about it but its that rare that I kind of figured something Russian instead. I could see it wasn't a Bulgarian pine cone but I had no idea what it might be from the picture hence the aforementioned guess. Dave did you get tha...

Re: Bulgarian pine cone marking on Soviet Izhevshevsk?
Nothing in Ratnik's book to show that marking. Exactly he mentions it not so it is assumed unknown and probably from Russia. The quality of the picture is still not good enough for me to make it out well enough to do anything but guess. I often find marks not in any books and just pass on their mea...

Russian depot rework mark of some sort. Without better pictures that is just a guess like others would make. Bill

I don't know how important (or rare) those red numbers are. But, I also have a good number of them that were from the same importer as yours. Aloha, Mark Just don't be licking on those red letters, I saw on the internet that it was poison. I will answer about the red letters this way, I can get you...

Re: Stuck magazine release
I use a set of heavy government long gauntlet rubber gloves and go out side with a can of WalMart Carb cleaner and spray all metal parts separate away from the wood till they are squeaky clean and I then oil them with Balistoll and they are like new and won't rust either. Needless to say keep this s...

Re: My first post- original matching 1899 M91 Tula
Rifles like this are out there all it takes is getting off your duff and checking for them! They aren't marching in off the internet believe me. I found mine at an auction with a bayonet and a scabbard. Only reason I got it is because I held it in my hands and with knowledge of years of reading and ...

Re: Grease or oil?
I have never used grease on a weapon other than when it was going into definite long term storage and then I use RIG. Everything gets Balistoll and has for many years. Like the usual you will see a million different opinions. My thought use what you like but use something! Bill

Re: 1936 Mosin with 23 inch barrel
Looks like a Finn-cub and at first they were called that because they knew they were Finn rifles and they were so small compared to a full size 91/30 or M91. Still see them floating around for $75 to $125 a piece down here in WV. I don't need parts that much any more so I usually pass on them. Where...

Re: M44 butt markings
More than likely the stampings of a collector who had more than one Mosin apart at one time and used the stampings to match them up. I have bought from a collector many years ago who slipped little pieces of paper under the butt plate with his name and stamped a number serial of some kind in the woo...

Re: Need help with Austrian Information
The Finns bought the Mosin rifles from many sources. The Austrian marks were just indicating they had been to Austrian depots and in Austrian hands at some time. All the marks you question are saying that. If that rifle will safely chamber a 7.62x54r round it is likely not changed to another caliber...

Re: Replace bolt spring?
I have a couple of Mosins from WWII and was wondering if anyone has replaced the bolt springs. I read somewhere you can buy "lighter" bolt springs that will make the action easier to eject and load as well as making it smoother. Old wives tale or truth? First off we are presuming you are ...

Re: 1916 Izhevsk for $250
Definitely a 91/30 stock and handguard. You will find M91 stocks turning up on eBay now and then, but the handguard will be harder to find. I know that German guy, we have one here, Karl, father a Nazi government administrator in the occupied territory's, four brothers in the Waffen SS, tank ace fo...

Re: 1939 Tula M91/59 - My first Tula!
Hmm that one looks awful familiar to me. Think I saw that at a show awhile back. Price balked me being I am so cheap and I really don't pay much for refurbs or newer stuff. Nice example and will make good 100 yard blaster for sure. Got to be in the $200 range or I walk on. Congrats its a nice one fo...
