Re: 1942 Finn VKT
I am not too greatly versed yet in that but i would say possibly yes. But they also may have marked it in finland. The hammer mark on under the tang is a tula hammer that they used pre 1928 so we know that the reciever is at least before that. And of course the T in a triangle is a tikka mark. They...

So is this an import mark?desdem12 wrote:Some times on the older imports they duplicated the shank number on the reciever to give it a reciever identifying serial number. If it had cyrillic lettering on the shank the latin equivilant and the number were stamped on the reciever and used as the import mark.

Re: 1942 Finn VKT
Yesterday was the first time I've ever torn down a Mosin. I almost buggered up the barrel bands not knowing they turn to the right to expand the band. I did get a nice metal sliver for the effort. I poured over this rifle with a magnifying glass and not a single import mark on this rifle anywhere. I...

Re: 1942 Finn VKT
That's a SWEET Finn, Drago!! :vcool: Does it have an import mark on it......I didn't see one in the pics? Good question, I'm not sure. I'll look tonight. An import mark would be in plain sight, right? Either on the barrel or receiver, correct? Yup. It looks like there maybe something on the left si...

Re: Possible Romanian DDR...is back
Until we get some Iron Curtain records, there will probably always be two schools 1. Needs to have the /1\ to be considered a DDR. 2. The horizontal matching numbers on the handguard and buttstock are enough to call it a DDR. My argument. Why do we only see the /1\ associated with the horizontal st...

Re: 1942 Finn VKT
:toast: I need some friends like that. It's gorgeous. This particular friend has made me some very sweet deals and he usually only has nice stuff. He sold me his 1949 Russian ex-DDR SKS for well under market value and knew it the whole time. I even had to add a few hundred to his price so that I di...

Re: 1942 Finn VKT
That is one sweet barrel it looks like. It is common for the butt plate and the magazine to be scrubbed or force matched on finns. There shouldn't be any finger grooves but i didn't see any in the pictures either so maybe it is wear. A nice stock for sure and the bluing looks good. I like it and th...

1942 Finn VKT
Last weekend, I bought this Finn from a friend of mine. It's all numbers matching except for the floorplate (I'm so green with these, I don't even know if that's common or uncommon). I had expressed to my friend that I'm focusing my Mosin collection towards Finn's as I already have a M39. He made me...

Re: Possible Romanian DDR...is back
Thanks Howie, glad to have the mark cleared up. So what's the concensus on the DDR style stampings? Could this be an ex-DDR based just on the S/N stampings?

Possible Romanian DDR...is back
Some time back, right before I became a member here, Old Outlaw presented this rifle to you guys, as a possible Ex-DDR. It has the DRR signature horizontal S/N buttstock stamping and also the S/N stamped onto the handguard. Strangely, the butt stock S/N is struck twice. Once in the common manner and...

Re: TC9-56 SKS Question
Didn't Tula have some issues with primers last year. I know the answer to that question, actually, just can't remember the specifics. Something about quality control on their primers and being inconsistent. I believe some people were able to send back ammo from certain lots and have it replaced. I d...

Re: Really? 1951 Tula sold for $465 on GB
That's awesome Weldon. If I was only about collecting, I'd never post anything, only lurk and sponge off everyone else's knowledge and experience. I'm an ex-DDR firearms collector and I realize that the more people know about them, the more it might hurt my own acquiring, but I enjoy sharing informa...

Re: Really? 1951 Tula sold for $465 on GB
I hope OO will post his 1951 in this thread, so we'll have two examples to look over in one spot. That is, until the Gunbroker auction fades or the seller pulls his pics. My intention on doing this was to help educate and have fun, but not at a buyer/sellers expense. I feel like this forum is a good...

Re: Really? 1951 Tula sold for $465 on GB
Thanks Drago, like I said, it was fun :) As long as Mike and I team up when we go shopping, we got it made  What do you think the story is on the 2nd one? It looks to be a light refurbish but the only obvious clue is the bayonet (in the photos anyway). It looks like it went for a pretty fa...

Re: Really? 1951 Tula sold for $465 on GB
What a timely thread. I was making the circuit today and saw a '51 Tula laminate at a shop for $429 and was wondering if that was typical. Watching this thread... Well, I can tell you without looking, that the '52 Tula Laminate is a refurb. For me to spend $429 on it, it would first have to have an...
