Re: Judi's Gun Show Score, 3 No-Import Stamps & 1 Import M-

You bought an M1 Carbine with a box o'goodies and have almost three other guns for free. I'd call it magic, too. :D The wooden cleaning rod is a first for me on a Mosin Nagant. But it is not unfamiliar in the Japanese collecting world. Many of the expedient replacements were a simple stick of bamboo...

Re: Savage Enfield (T) Sniper - Less Scope

Sweet! What are the odds of finding a scope? Any attempt at locating a "correct" scope ('41-'43 snipers were equipped with the MkI No.32 optics) would in fact make this gun "incorrect", as it was never officially fitted. The original scopes in good condition are also quite price...

Savage Enfield (T) Sniper - Less Scope

Tripping Over (T)'s - Savage Less Telescope I stumbled across my fourth Lee-Enfield Sniper in four month's time today at a local shop. I bought the Enfield Trials Rifle from a private sale in September, watched the other Trials Rifle do crazy money at Poulin's Auction in October, passed on a put-tog...

And we are looking forward to pics, especially any which would define it as a training rifle.

Welcome to the madness. :)

Yes, solid bands.

No tang markings at all. Typical of the late-teens, early-twenties.

'22 Dragoon

I've had this for a couple of months, and forgot to post it up here! Nothing special. It's not matching and a Finn rebuild. But it's still a Dragoon. Note both the early and late Izhevsk stamps, and what looks like a hardness check on the receiver and barrel. Receiver is not dated, but appears to be...

Re: The issued Mosin Rifle

Putting the fresh refurbs to shame.

It's not that the rebuilt and refinished Ukraine imports don't have experience. They do. But once the salt blue and shellac are applied, they become Cold Wars relics over World War and police action arms.

Very good show.

We can see a bit more with those pics, for sure. Is the bolt numbered at all? Nice snag.

Interesting to see that the Polish refurbed Soviet M44 also has the rear sight leaf in the white.

Re: 44 Izhevsk PU sniper, Yugo or Polish refurb ???????

..... really looking like the same Y-inspections stamps and metal hue on the bands/springs as the Polish M44. Wish I could help with finding more Polish parts on my two specimens. But the beech stocked one has all Izhevsk parts, and the birch stocked one has all Tula parts. I will take a look at my ...

Re: 44 Izhevsk PU sniper, Yugo or Polish refurb ???????

I also have the purple ink date stamp inside the stock channel on my Beech Stocked Polish Sniper, but always assumed it was a stock maker's stamp vs a refurb indicator. It was dated 1963 or 65, if memory serves. These purple ink stamps have also been observed inside new construction Polish M44 beech...

Re: Wow, I actually got a good deal on an ex-dragoon

I paid $125 for my first ex-dragoon in 2008, thinking I did quite well....

... until I found out that I overpaid by $35.

Yeah. Times have changed. Nice to see that there are still some deals to be had!

Re: Mosin Stuck Casings

My buddy had the syndrome, and we took a Scotch-Brite pad on the end of a cleaning jag, and wound the heck out of the chamber with a high speed drill. When finished, it was better but not perfect. Then with a small round jeweler's file, we found a spot which would "catch" inside. Some very...

Re: Mosin Stuck Casings

As you have discovered, it is not a bolt issue, even though it it called Sticky Bolt syndrome. The casing is stuck in the chamber and the extractor can't let go without a swift blow from a hammer.
