Re: Estate Auction Find: Mudken Type 38 Carbine

Looking again I realize your picture shows the number on the underside of the bolt handle. I also missed the bayonet lug having faint remains of an old assembly number, having been ground smooth and refinished. This is a trend with kokura rebuilds as kokura had ceased numbering type 38 front bands i...

Re: Estate Auction Find: Mudken Type 38 Carbine

That cleaned up pretty well! Is the 872 on the bolt handle stamped on the top or underside? (When closed) Hoten arsenal (mukden)+ follow their own rules on proofing and serialization. With this series of carbine production the bolts were originally matched to a character number combo know as the ass...

Re: Berthier Carbine...

Any small part proofs, serials etc on the front band/bayonet lug components? Their origin would definitely help. I dont think german army mauser bayonet bars have the two locking notches seen here, just one. Seems South American or at least some place that had multiple generations of mauser rifles a...

Re: Type 38 "mum" pics

This does look typical of Thai purchased type 38s (Thai type 83). Serial and series info is helpful as these came from certain production series'. One could make a small collection of mum cancellations as this was done to all arms removed from service although a great many still managed to get groun...

Re: Izawa Jyuko Series 9 Type 99 transitional rifle [Lots of photos]

Nice rifle! This is an early Izawa "substitute" type 99. These are definitely less common guns and with the bayonet I think you did very well. The seller was correct there was a ton of minor variations in this small run of rifles (highest known is 21432) all maintained the full length stoc...

Re: Mint 2nd Series Kokura Type 38 Carbine [Photo heavy]

Nice find, my collection lacks a nice kokura made carbine. The rear sight isnt mismatched or misnumbered the rear sight assemblies had a separate subassembly number ( depending on maker and time frame) as these were assembled separately and later mated to the rifle. Occasionally three numbers are fo...

Re: Japanese Type 30 (?) Carbine

Nice type 38 carbine! The hat is a pre war era enlisted mens cap, this style replaced by the more familiar billed cap. I think this one is dated 1936. The biggest misconception about grinding/mum removal is that no one knows the whole story and anyone who claims to is likely full of beans. There has...

Re: RE: Re: Did I mention I need to stay out of pawn shops

Great find! I miss gun selling pawn shops, I use to come across some really cool stuff. (Such things aren't legal in PA) 37th series rifles have a good range of variation. It starts off with beautiful fully accessorized rifles and ending in the mid 50 thousands with late transitional rifles. Did it...

Re: Ishapore Enfield Musket

On my way to look at one now! I hear its overpriced though, so we shall see. These are alot of fun to shoot, at least as far as the .410 chambered ones go. Ive not shot one in original chambering yet. Update: fairly ratty looking and waaay overpriced IMO @$350. Of interest was a bright red paint ban...

Re: Why do I not want a Steyr 1895 carbine?

Theyre neat little rifles, I love mine! Not too much fun for shooting groups but great for just shooting for shooting sake. As for ammo, stick to your guns and try not to pay more than $10/box for the "nazi"stuff. Despite the claims its not rare by any means. And while the supply of 1938-3...

Well, the good general certainly didnt waste anytime wrecking this one. He owned it maybe 4 years? 4 years without alot of real down time, there being a war on and all. But still.... there was time... for this!? lol. I kid, but I do find it amusing. At least from what I recall he left his k98k prett...

Re: One of them weird swiss rifles.

Gorgeous 89!!! I look foward to coming across one as pretty as this one, which I would hope to shoot as well. In the meantime I have some original boxes of the early 7.5mm waiting for its arrival . The left is paper patched lead GP90. I believe the 90/23 on the right is a jacketed roundnose version....
