Re: Question on Arisaka Type 38 carbine
Thanks. The assembly numbers are the same with everything but the bolt. The bolt pieces match each other, except for the firing pin.

Question on Arisaka Type 38 carbine
Hello All. I found this Type 38 carbine at a LGS. I think it's an early production, it has no series and a 5 digit serial number. The bolt doesn't match, bore is in good shape. My question is about the lack of a mum. I can't see any evidence of one ever being there. I originally thought it might hav...

Re: Questions on 1903
On the top of the bolt handle is "N.S.". Under the bolt handle is a "O". I don't see any other marks on the bolt.

Questions on 1903
Hello. I picked up a SA 1903 #1047134 today. I'll post pictures later, but had a few questions. The receiver is a Mark I type, but the barrel is a SA 8-42. Cartouche on side is C-SAA and there are two cartouches behind the trigger- 1 circle P, 1 boxed P. Is this consistent with a arsenal rebuild?

Added M28-76 to collection
Hello All. I bought this M28-76 this week at a local gun store. It has a pristine bore, ASEV1 barrel and it has the scope mount base on it. What it doesn't have is a "D" or "D166" mark - does this one need 53R ammo? It will chamber and eject surplus 54R fine - but I don't want to...

Help with M1903A4
Hello All. I looked at a M1903A4 today and have few questions. Here are the details I have - it's Remington s/n 4994xxx, barrel was stamped RA 12-43, bolt appeared to be all Remington - saw a few "R" stamps and nothing else. It has Redfield mounts and an Lyman Alaskan scope. The scope had ...

I have a 1934/50 (no MO mark) Izhevsk refurb that is serial number "03". It's stamped matching.

Re: personal favorite it your collection?
It would have to be my first - 1939 Tula M91/30 red letter with match bayo. Not only my first surplus gun, but the first time I fired a rifle larger than a .22. I still remember that first shot!

Re: Help with enfield
I thinks it's a no 1 mk 3. The stock goes out to the muzzle. Shouldn't it have serial numbers on the mag and bolt?

Help with enfield
Hello. I'm looking at a 1940 enfield lithgow and I can't find any serial numbers on the bolt or magazine. Otherwise it looks complete and original. Don't know much about them- any suggestions? Should it be serial numbered? Shop is wanting $200.

Re: Craigslist surprise
One more question about this one. It has a "W" stamped under the eagle on the receiver. Anyone seen this before? Thanks!

Suspect bolt - where to start
I have a 1930 91/30 that's always had "sticky bolt". I tried all the cleaning suggestions and after awhile I just got tired of this rifle and set it aside. Well, the other day I got it out and was looking at it some more and decided to swap another bolt into it to see if it made a differen...

Re: Craigslist surprise
Went to the range this morning and reaffirmed 2 often repeated facts - 1) the Finn Mosins are accurate as can be, and 2) you can "shoot clean" a dirty bore. My son, with his 21 year old eyes, was holding his shots in a 2" group at 50 yards, I was getting them within 6" (with a fe...

Craigslist surprise
I was scanning CL this past Thursday evening and came across an ad for a Mosin 91-30. The single poor quality picture showed what looked to be a Tikka barrel which caught my interest. As luck would have it, the seller responded promptly to my inquiry and sent me some more pics that showed that it wa...

Re: Gander Mountain
I stopped by the local GM and few months ago and bought a nice numbers matching Type 53 that caught my eye. Their guns/ammo prices are typically on the high side. They do take guns on trade, so it's possible to find a nice milsurp if your timing is right.

Question about Arisaka Type 99 markings
Hello All. I picked up a type 99 yesterday at local swap meet. It has an original sling and cleaning rod and overall is in very nice condition. I bought it thinking it was a mis-match (bolt doesn't match) but tonight while cleaning it, I noticed the 3 digit number of the bolt is stamped on the barre...
