Re: Help me select neck sizing expander ball and confirm bul
In bolt action rifles, in which rounds don't have to withstand a severe feeding cycle, as ocurrs in a semiauto, an expander ball 0.001 smaller than the bullet is adequate. This is also best with cast lead bullets, because a soft bullet may be deformed when forced into a tight neck.

Sierra .311" 174-grain Matchking in M39 Ersatz Sniper
I have one of the "ersatz-snipers" put together by Century Arms using a Finnish M39 rifle arsenal rebuilt in 1968 with a post-war PU scope and mount of the same type used on the PKM machinegun. The Finns never used the PU scope, but did use some PEs. The rifle shoots VERY well, actually BE...

Re: Bullet 308 reloading
My first advice is to avoid Federal brass for full power loads, because it tends to be soft and the primer pockets will get loose after only a few full charge reloads. I prefer USGI brass which has previously been fired either in M21 or M14 rifles or in bolt actions. You do NOT want 7.62 NATO cases ...

Re: Reloading Mosin w/ ~.314 bore
That's a lot of (seemingly very good!) information for a novice to digest. I'll start by asking: Does all of what you said about choosing bullet diameter based on throat diameter apply only to cast ammo? How does one choose the best jacketed bullet? Thanks, Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk That is ...

Re: Reloading Mosin w/ ~.314 bore
To determine the correct bullet diameter for a rifle, the groove diameter of the barrel is NOT the determinant. INSTEAD you want to measure the "ball seat" or "throat," which is the unrifled portion ahead of the case mouth, before the rifling starts. The easiest way to do this is...
