Re: Mauser porn buffet
I still love the irony that we had to pay Mauser for the privilege of shooting hem with 1903s (regardless of the fact that the M1917 was the prevalent long arm for the American Expeditionary Force).
And I agree, the Swedes made the Mauser a work of art.

Re: Mosin Sniper Accuracy...
My staple is red army standard, 148gr.
I suspect that it is a bit more standard that surplus, but not as good in consistency as Winchester or PPU. Of course it may also just be me.

Re: made up sniper? think so
My wife buys an expensive purse, I get to buy a rifle, and visa versa.
Or I start talking about buying a Swedish Mauser sniper, she says go ahead.
Partnership works the best!

Re: Pre-1942 PU Snipers?
My mistake was in saying Pre-42 PU, instead of pre-42 sniper. I know that during that era the PE and PEM snipers were being made. Not only were they different mounting configurations they were different scopes with differint optics and bodies. Wish I could get one of them.

Re: Mosin Sniper Accuracy...
I totally agree. That I am shrinking the shot group shows that the inaccuracy in shooting is due to me, not the rifle.

Re: Pre-1942 PU Snipers?
A pre-42 PU would likely have had a different scope mount configuration, and that would be apparent on the receiver. However, it is very unlikely that a rifle would be reused in that manner. More likely it would show up as an Ex-sniper.

Re: Mosin Sniper Accuracy...
Very nice shooting. My 1943 Ishvesk shoots the best of the two PUs that I own. I am always putting rounds down range for Postal competitions at 100 yards, and I am now getting shot groups of 5.5 MOA. With the flyer making it a 5 inch grouping. Practice and more practice is needed. And I am shrinking...

Re: Perspective
The qualifying 10 rounds were fired from a bench rest. Locked down and held in a vise grip. With a person the effective engagement range was 300 meters and less. And the target was a torso or head. Sniper targets are a bit more forgiving than the 3.5 centimeter target. A head or torso. In combat, yo...

Re: Sighting in a pu
Most PU snipers aren't zeroed to their scopes when you get them. You can set the reticle and do a virtual zero with a laser pointer round. That can get you into the ballpark.

Shooting your sniper
Over on SurplusRifleForum.com they run monthly postal competitions. There are usually a couple of different classes ongoing at different ranges. One that I always enjoy shooting is the sniper. Normally this competition is done at a 100 yard range and they vary either the target or the position. Last...

Re: M-1 Garand sights
I'm a vet as well. Infantry officer. And I spent time on the staff in the Infantry School at Ft. Benning. Effective engagement distance in open terrain for infantry is 300 meters. Most riflemen have difficulty hitting a stationary target at greater than 300 meters. The area fire of machineguns is fa...

Re: M-1 Garand sights
Considering that most effective engagement ranges in Europe were from 300 yards and closer there would be little incentive for a soldier to adjust their sites. Also remember that longer range engagements were normally done with machineguns or company mortars. Long range marksmanship has never been t...

Re: conceal
That smartphone pistol is useless. If you have to pull it from your pocket, unfold it, grasp it and then acquire the target and shoot, you better hope the threat is 50 feet away, or more.

The mount cut out appears old, and square. The varnish appears to have been applied equally over it and the rest of the stock. It could be original, but then, who really knows?

As requested. This is the import banner on the Tula. It is on the underside of the barrel.
This one is from my Ishvesk Sniper. Same location.

Well, a year later, give or take, a bit of practice and some tweaking in the scope adjustment, I got this result at 75 yards.

A possible carry pistol
I rather like the feel and handling of this one. It's a Sig Sauer P239, single stack 9mm. Good handling characteristics. The previous model that this is based upon and replaced was designed as a carry pistol for the Swedish police. The flat, 1.25 inch cross-section make it more suitable for conceale...
