Chinese Type 53 w/ Vietnam bring back papers
I have an SKS with a set of Vietnam bringback documents but haven't come across a fairly priced example of a Type 53, so when I saw this one on Gunbroker for a reasonable price I placed a bid and won. Rifle is mismatched, but looks to be all Chinese made parts. The stock looks lightly sanded and ref...

Original matching 1939 Izhevsk Finn captured M91/30 (Allentown PA gun show find)
Here's my other nice find from the Allentown PA show today. I don't really collect Finn capture M91/30's, but for the price I couldn't pass this one up. This 1939 Izhevsk is all original matching, with every part (minus a Tula marked cleaning rod) having the correct Izhevsk proofs. The stock has som...

SCW 1936 Izhevsk M91/30 w/ "USSR" marked rear sight
Picked this up from a fellow collector who was liquidating a bit of his collection. Despite the large amount of Spanish Civil War Mosin Nagants I have, I didn't have an example with the "USSR" mark on the rear sight, so I was happy to pick this one up. Lately I've been buying mostly Arisak...

Re: An interesting (but neglected) 1928 Izhevsk Dragoon (Arsenal repaired? Thoughts?)
Thank you for the comments everyone! I'm very happy with this rifle, even more now that the cleanup is basically complete. I have pretty much finish up the clean up process, so I thought I'd share some "after" photos. Quite a difference I'd say! I'm very pleased with how this turned out. T...

Re: Mummed, matching (w/ dust cover) Type 2 Arisaka paratrooper rifle
Thanks for the comments everyone. This is my new favorite Arisaka. I'm not embarrassed to say I paid $1,600 shipped for this rifle. Considered what I see ground examples without a cover and the interest stock sell for, I knew this was the Type 2 I finally wanted to pick up.

Re: Unissued, matching late 7th series Type 99 Arisaka
Thanks for the comments everyone! I'm very pleased with this pickup. Nice, definitely looks like it never made it to the field. I have a 7th series transitional, still has the adjustable rear sight metal butt plate and the grooved safety knob matching and ground mum. Also picked up a 9th series Howa...

Re: 303 British Bolt? NOT!
B24, That's a steal of a deal on a Howa! It's very difficult to find this series and maker mummed and matching. $150 is amazing. I just picked up an example last month from a lead on Facebook, at a shop in New Hampshire. Mine is also mummed and matching, but I paid about $350 and was very happy at t...

Mummed, matching (w/ dust cover) Type 2 Arisaka paratrooper rifle
I picked this up off Gunbroker on Wednesday, and amazingly it arrived 3 days later. This one had a dirt cheap Buy It Now for a mummed, matching example, even with the slight rust issues. This Type 2 Paratrooper was likely in mint shape after the war, when someone shoved it into the wall of a garage ...

Unissued, matching late 7th series Type 99 Arisaka
I picked this rifle up last week off Gunbroker and am very happy with what I received. It was a risk, with pretty iffy photos, but it was a penny start auction and only went for about $160. It's a matching, late 7th series Nagoya Type 99 in basically unissued condition, looking like it just came out...

An interesting (but neglected) 1928 Izhevsk Dragoon (Arsenal repaired? Thoughts?)
I haven't bought a Mosin Nagant in many months (been focused more on Japanese items the last few years), but when I saw this very neglected dragoon was up for auction an hour from me, I decided to make the drive and bid on it. I managed to win it for a decent price, and I have come to find it's a pr...

That rifle screams SCW. Cleaning rod is even the style of a Spanish replacement. See my website for other examples.
Nice cartouche on that stock.

GI Shipping crate w/ 27th series TJK Type 99
Bought myself another Type 99 in a shipping crate. Unfortunately the rifle in this one is nothing special, but the crate is from a town about an hour west of me, which is very neat. Has a nice tag still attached to it from when the crate went through Buffalo, NY. My brief research on the vet shows h...

Re: Transitional type 99
Did you pick this up at the Oaks PA show? I saw a 7th series exactly like this at the show. I had a table set up with a Japanese weapons display, so maybe you stopped by and talked with me too? Nice rifle. If it's the one from Oaks, I thought about picking it up, but have a few high dollar Japanese ...

Type 44 Arisaka in GI shipping crate w/ sling, cleaning rods, and Type 30 bayonet
I picked this up at an auction down in PA this morning. Had to wake up at 4am, and it was an 8 hour round trip, but very much worth it. This auction came up so last minute I had to switch shifts at work with someone to make sure I was able to attend. I already own two other bring back crated rifle s...

A couple WWI Austrian captured M91's (1896 Tula and 1915 Izhevsk)
I was updating photos on some of my collection and decided to get some of my two favorite Mosin Nagants. Both appear to be World War I era original rifles, in "as is" condition as when they were being used in the Austrian Army during World War I. The 1896 Tula was picked up in a shop local...

Finnish M28 in ski trooper stock
I bought this at the Rochester Gun Show back in September 2009. It was the second Mosin Nagant I'd purchased at the time and I knew very little about it except the ski trooper stock was neat. I think I paid $300 at the time. It was missing the front barrel band plate when I bought it, but some years...

Matching 11th series Rope Hole Type 99 Arisaka
My "YouTube find" rope hole rifle showed up in the mail today and I was very excited to rip open the box, ha! This is my 3rd rope hole rifle, but by first all matching example. Only set me back $450 shipped. It's an 11th series in the 90,000 range. It has a few interesting features to it: ...

Re: Back in the Mosin game with a SCW
What an exciting rifle! Very nice piece. As Lotema said, he and I each found a rifle last year with a Spanish made stock with the same name written in it. He was nice enough to sell his to me after we discovered that! I'm extremely grateful for him doing that too! In any case, your rifle stock very ...

Re: All matching Kokura Concentric Circle Type 38 w/ dust cover and capture paper
I know squat about Jap rifles. What is the concentric circles vs the Mum? Unknown still to this day. The two main theories are either: Sent to schools as training rifles Used by paramilitary forces (kempeitai) Many CC marked Type 38's show school markings on the stock and receiver, which adds credi...

Re: All matching complete 3rd series Type 99 w/ mum and sling
Thanks guys. Despite my collecting Arisakas for the last year and a half, this is my firs complete early rifle. The post war storage damage wasn't as bad on this one as the Type 38 I posted. The brown patina is kind of pleasing, though I'd prefer the original blue.
