M1917 Enfield safety lock cover
I am new to these rifles, and as usual, just like every other milsurp there is something new to learn how to do. I am inventorying the manufacturer marks to see what I need to replace to get it to 100%. I have most of it done but one of the last items to check is the safety lock cover. I have to rem...

Re: Meet Eddy Stone
I guess its one of the fun parts......the search......the discovery......putting together a "grouping" (bayo, ammo pouches, related personal field gear, someimes the work "fixing" whats wrong. I've been working on aCommission 1888/05 for a year now, for instance. It was a mongrel...

Re: Meet Eddy Stone
I have to buy another "present"........drat! I cleaned up the bayonet that came with the rifle and discovered it is a P13, British issue. Some bozo decided to "subdue" the metal parts that had lost finish. They did it with black gloss enamel and a brush. When I got the stuff off,...

Re: Meet Eddy Stone
Heavy is just the word. It still amazes me grunts on both sides didn't keel over and die from exhaustion, having to lug all that heavy equipment around while wearing wool uniforms! This thing is a beast! It ranks right there with the M39 weight wise. I got another surprise this morning when I went t...

Meet Eddy Stone
Here is my latest acquisition for my WW1 collection, an Eddystone United States Rifle Model 1917. Per the SN, it was manufactured/delivered in November of 1918. It has the refurbishment code "P" stamped on the wrist, but the only parts I've noticed that were replaced were things like swive...

M 1888 problem
Hi all, I just acquired a 1890 Amberg M1888/05. This thing is seriously greased up. Its gross just to handle it. I decided to give it a thorough going over even before I took pictures. I have it stripped just about completely....all but one part.....that's where I need help. First, I can remember wh...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
There are nice people out there.......just got these today... Sir, Sorry for the lag time in response (I did not get your emails until this morning when I got in to work). I'm going to try and compile answers for the last two emails in one (hopefully this works). I can understand you not being comfo...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
Once again you guys are absolutely right! I feel sort of bad that I'm not "working it out" with the seller, but all in all its a bad deal. No matter what, I would not get what I bargained for, nor would I get it when I should. I could see the five days to a week for the 'smith taking two w...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I reviewed our correspondence and I did ask him about the issue specifically. He stated that there were some questions about the SN and the BATF checked it out. They ran tests and concluded the SN was legit. He assured me it had a clean bill of health and the Feds, "restored" (so to speak)...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I appreciate the offer Boltaction, but I'm collecting WW1 now.......this 1903 was my best bet for the price at the time.......all the others were much more, or in the low number "suspect" zone, and considering I fire my pieces, I avoid those.

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I did ask about one pic that showed some "substance" on the receiver bridge. He explained that the Feds were called in to check this one (they are a pawn shop). He said everything checked out OK, and the stuff on the receiver cleaned off well, leaving only minor discoloration after being o...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I don't usually divulge prices but in this case I will in order to get some feedback on what people think it SHOULD be worth. Like I said, its a Springfield Armory 1903, comfortably in the 800,000 range, good wood, good metal, good bore, nothing major wrong with it. From what I SEE it would be VG. I...

Re: 1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I rechecked the photos I do have, and even considering the poor quality, the markings are there, they appear worn, but there. I don't know what the problem is. Restoring the letters and numbers = OK. stamping or electro penciling something on it = NO GO. I'll take the hit and not pay if necessary. I...

1903 Springfield Rifle - I AM REALLY CONFUSED!
I just won a 1918 Springfield Armory 1903 rifle on GB. I'll let you read the email I just got from the seller - Mr. Berk Thank you for the quick submission of forms. I must advise you that I had an ATF agent come to my shop for an audit and he told me that before I can transfer the fire arm, I must ...

New (old) C96 holster rig
After much soul searching and research, I decided not to pass up this outfit. Its in wonderful shape considering its age. The leather is a bit stiff in spots, but still sound, as is the stitching. No cracks in the wood. Only missing one screw and the nut inside the lid. The only thing I'm unsure of ...

Around where I thought. I heard near $1250 too. Its definitely a rare item. He has a couple of others. One is 1930s vintage "Mauser" stamped stock for $650 by itself. He also has the most unusual one I have ever seen. Somewhere, sometime, someone took the time to modify the stock so the li...

If the rifles are so lite, the carbines and stutzens must be a dream to carry...........and a b..ch to shoot! Gotta love 'em.
