Re: Bore cleaning blues...

Or you could what the good Russian foot soldier did and pee down the barrel. That'll flush it.

Re: Has anyone ever seen this mark?

Thanks for the responses. Yep, this baby is a total parts bin refurb. Tula and Izhevsk parts all mixed thru it. But it did pass the No-Go headspace test. :)

Re: Has anyone ever seen this mark?

These marks are about 3/8" tall. The stock also has plenty of small stampings all over it.

Re: Has anyone ever seen this mark?

This thing has stamps all over it.... much more than my '32 hex.

Re: Bore cleaning blues...

After initial Cosmoline removal use Birchwood Casey No. 77 Muzzle Magic Cleaner. Follow the directions on the bottle, but you can let it soak in for a few minutes during first application. It works great. :D

Re: Spam can or Mosin??

All I was doing was comparing the price of new .22LR ammo to the cost of surplus 7.62x54R. But I can build you a new barrel for $2000.00. ;)

Re: Spam can or Mosin??

At 25 cents a round, Mosin ammo is about as cheap as .22LR. I have 2 Mosin 91/30's and 3 cans of ammo..... and growing. :)

Re: Bolt head markings

Yep, that extractor is the only Tula stamped part on this particular rifle. Now my "new" 1943 Izhevsk 91/30 looks like it may have had quite a few parts replaced at the armory. I'll be cleaning off the Cosmo this weekend and seeing what surprises it has in store.

Bolt head markings

Here are some markings from the bolt head of my 1932 Izhevsk 91/30. Definitely has spare parts.

Re: Headspace gauges

I do have another 91/30 coming next week. I'm going to check it as is, and then swap my old bolt head with it's bolt head and see if it passes, also.

Oh yeah, I have another 91/30 coming in a week or so, so I'll probably swap bolt heads and check them both then.

Headspace gauges

I need some expert advice. My "new" 1932 Izhevsk hex has failed the "no-go" gauge test, but passed the "field" gauge test. Should I have any concerns?
