Re: Bullet sizes for measured bores.

So I'm wanting to build some loads for my M91 Finn and M39 Finn. The M91, "D" barrel, Belgian made, slugs at .310", the M39, "D" barrel, slugs at .311". I'm thinking .311" bullets for the M39, For the M91 I have 308" bullets, would I dare run .311" bulle...

Re: Shooting com bloc 54R in M39 not marked 'D'

There just was one great difference with war time Soviet ammo, it had steel jacketed lead core bullet. Lead gives in unlike steel core, so war time ammo was ok to go with m/28-30s too, if needed. I would not shoot surplus with m/28-30 even if it had a D-chamber. Even if there were no pressure issue...

Re: 1896 Tula M91, German Capture/Finnish Use

Very nice rifle indeed! I'd say that the wooden recoil lug was probably mounted already in Russia when they updated the rear sight too. What Bill said that it was sold by the Germans to the Finns after the Great War, well that is probably the case. But it could be one of the rifles that the Germans ...

Re: Shooting com bloc 54R in M39 not marked 'D'

Like said, m/39 and surplus ammo is a safe combination. No worries. Yes its should be fine, I have put about 50 of the 188 factory surplus thru mine w/o issue. and besides I thing someone here shared that the Finns used to steal ammo from the Russians w/ their own radio calls. Others my chime in but...

Re: M1891 Rifle Sling?

The Finn's were so sling poor I kind of laugh a bit when people go whacky trying to find the "proper" sling. Bill, you got that right. While a sling intented for an m/91 would be the "correct" sling, in reality anything went. Heck, every sling able to carry a rifle was fielded a...

Re: M1891 Rifle Sling?

Here you go Jay. This one is the more rare version of these tractor belt slings, the yellow-brownish straight button-only adjusted version. The other model is greenish-gray more traditional style sling. Both are etremely rare to encounter in good condition. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/12/f5...

Re: M27 Finn Ski Trooper found

Well, I went and looked again. Date is 1932 not 1934. Marked with a F, D, SA and a T in a triangle. Appears to be a T in a circle under the bolt handle. Rifling looks good but the end of the barrel is bored larger to a depth of @ 1/2 inch or less. Why would they do this? Will get pics up after work...

Re: M1891 Rifle Sling?

Ok, the original and in that sense correct sling would be the US made NEW contract leather sling. Those are beyond rare today. And anyways, as the rifle has been in Finnish service, any sling suitable for an m/91 will do. All kinds of slings were used by the Finnish Army. While m/39 sling could be u...

Re: M1891 Rifle Sling?

Well, for example Finnish leather m/91 slings or Finnish subsidiary webb slings, or if you are looking for something more exotic so called "tractor belt sling" - which were made in 1941 - might be the one for you. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/12/ad1dd8cb9b047ed8930da3e5df00be50.jpg...

Re: M27 Finn Ski Trooper found

I may well be in 7.62X53 unless it had a, "D", stamped on the barrel which means it has been opened the chamber for the 54 cartridge. No. The D-stamp just means that the throat has been opened for Finnish Army standard service ammo, 7,62x53r loaded with D166-bullet. All Finnish made barre...

Re: New mark/stamp

I wouldn't bet on anything being the last of the last. I would. Sad for us Finnish collectors and shooters, but we are out. There are still M39's in Finland, their motion picture industry seems to have them for war movies and I see Finnish reenactors using them on various you tube videos. Th...

Bill,

Hard to tell. But as far I have understood no carbine sling were manufactured during the war. Post war they - at least some Eatern Bloc states - did.

Re: I think I scored bigtime

The original finish was beeswax and boiled linseed oil, so unless you can do that process, I'd just clean it put some lemon oil on ...put that can of poly back where it was :soapbox: ..SBP That sort of finish was never used on any Finnish rifle. Sorry to say it but it is just an Internet fairytale....

Re: Carbine sling or not?

There never was Soviet "carbine slings" in existence. At least no war time slings. Mosin carbines used a standard m/91-30 sling. Or SMG sling.

yes to the svt-40 bolt ,they are refurbished . that purple color is the bluing temperature they turn that purple colOr kinda weird shade I think it also might have something to do with the high nickel content of the steel. original bolts are in the white This is not the whole story.
