Re: I'm really warming up to the Colt 1917

You certainly did a good job with your picture. It looks like a catalog entry for a high end sales company. Let us know how it shoots!

It looks great in the advertising picture. How did you find it? Have you shot it yet?

Re: Tokarev Brass for Reloading?

Sometimes you just have to try it and see how it works out. Its getting to be reloading season pretty quick and this project will be fairly high on the agenda. It would sure be nice to have an economical bullet that is already on hand for other purposes.

Re: Tokarev Brass for Reloading?

I have found plenty of online suggestions for loads with the Carbine bullets but so far have seen nothing with any pressure info. I do nor want to stress these old veterans too highly. Both the CZ52 & the Soviet Tokarev are supposed to be strong but there is no reason to take chances if good loa...

Re: Tokarev Brass for Reloading?

I've been reloading the Prvi brass with good success. Haven't tried the S&B yet. That is good to hear as the Prvi is several cents cheaper per round. What bullets are you using? I have been using some Sierra 85gr. that work well but are expensive. I have heard some folks are using 110 gr. M1 Ca...

Re: Tokarev Brass for Reloading?

What? You can find your Tokarev brass after shooting? You are a lucky man. Yah, that's a problem. It hits the back wall of the range pretty hard and often flies back out into the firing lanes where the broom can't reach it. I'm only gettin' 50-70 % of that expensive Starline brass back at the end o...

Tokarev Brass for Reloading?

Here in CA our benevolent rulers in Sacramento have decided that ammunition is evil and that their subjects should be prevented from getting any more except in very structured (read this as difficult & expensive) circumstances. I have decided to seriously upgrade my reloading capabilities and to...

Re: I'm really warming up to the Colt 1917

Yeah my Dad had a Model of 1989, 5". I loved shooting it, I was mad when he sold it before offering it to me. He regretted selling it later. He just bought a 625JM, plans on keeping that. (We'll see) What is a JM? I know Smith made a number of special editions with somewhat different features....

Re: I'm really warming up to the Colt 1917

I can't speak to the Colt but I do have a Smith & Wesson 625 in Stainless with a 3" barrel. The Smith is magnificent to handle & shoot and its a real tack driver. The only issue is the moon clips. It is tough to get the 45ACP in & out of them with just fingers & thumbs. There is...

Re: Casing Tumbler

I have been very impressed with the results of the Frankford wet tumbling process. The cases come out clean as a whistle inside & out and with no damage of any kind. It is more work but it makes me happy to load fresh clean cases. That is payoff enough for me. Just a note about this, the tumbler...

Re: Casing Tumbler

Do you run straight Simple Green or do you cut it?

What does it do for car parts? I have a Model T Holley NH that is ready for overhaul and I'm wondering if the ultrasonic might clean the passages out . . .

Re: Casing Tumbler

I think I have a work flow figured out for the new wet process. After the range brass gets sorted I'll decap it with the little Frankford decapper and then run it through the tumble when it accumulates into a large enough batch. Right now I have a huge job getting many thousands of cases decapped an...

Re: Casing Tumbler

I tried the ultrasonic cleaner and it did sweet nuthin to clean range brass with just dishwashing soap. Another brew might have gotten better results . . .

Re: Sig 226 best range day

I have been interested in the Sig 238 which is in 380 a caliber I already support for the Russian Makarov. We get a much reduced choice in CA compared to a normal state so there may well be other choices I have not been able to see hear.

Re: 1952 Polish M44---Worth it or not?

You are in deeper than I am! I have a Victrola XVII & an Orthophonic 4-40 in great playing condition. I have a Credenza project that needs a motor board and other parts but have not messed with it in a decade or so. Both my portables went TU and I didn't bother to load them into the Flivver this...

Re: Need help identifying cause of SVT 40 cycle failure

Are there good resources for SVT-40 owners these days? Back when these were being imported and sold there was very little info available.

I can't recall having ever seen one at the range.

A war picture or a horse opera is always good for reloading. I have seen a jillion Johnny Mack Browns over the winter while learning the new press.

Re: 1952 Polish M44---Worth it or not?

I once had a guy bang me $75 to ship a 23 pound phonograph three states away. I didn't say a word, I bought the machine a good $100 under value due to a minor mechanical problem and there was a part in that machine I knew was worth $350 all by itself. In fact that part is right here in front of me ...

Re: New 91/30 1941 Mosin owner

What is it like for a milsurp fan in the Czech Republic? Do you have a good variety of rifles & pistols to choose from? Do you have to jump through hoops to purchase them? How about shooting? Are ranges easy to find? I have a 1953 CZ-52 pistol that is one of my favorites. It handles well and sho...
