Re: Best Retro PU 40 Scope
Try the VOMZ brand reproduction PU scope. They are made in Russia, so not sure how easy it will be to acquire one now. I have one, and it's amazing.

Re: Need Help Identifying M91/30
So would Ukraine have renumbered it when they refurbished it? seems odd to me that they would do that but maybe that is normal, my only point of comparison is my SMLE which has a second set of proof marks from a later date to indicate it was refurbished but the serial number remained the same. I am...

Re: Need Help Identifying M91/30
Welcome to the forum! I'm not familiar with any marking that would indicate it had been captured Other than the barrel being renumbered, which is unusual to me, everything else looks to be just standard run of the mill post-war Soviet refurbishing. The box with a slash indicates Ukraine made the sto...

Re: Refurb and foreign aid
To the "original post", Not all of the Soviet refurbs came from Russia. Fact is, most of them came out of the Ukraine that were stored there by the Soviet. Ukraine was the location for the majority of the actual refurbishment work wasn't it? Since most of the refurbs hit our shores post '...

Re: Authentic or fake bayonet
I'm not a bayonet expert but ... I have seen these bayonets before. Not very common at all. As far as "Fake", I don't know of anyone who has made "fakes" of this bayonet. Just too difficult to make. Too bad it is in such poor shape. But, better like that then not at all! Darryl ...

Authentic or fake bayonet
I'm hoping it's authentic, but perhaps you will all know better than I if this Leningrad bayonet is the real deal, or a fake. Either way, it's a conversation piece when I put it on my 91/30 at the range. Looking forward to your input.

Re: Refurb and foreign aid
Up until around 2018 the Canadian Rangers, a reserve unit in the far north, used Lee Enfields.

Salty M38
Further to the topic I started on "Refurbs / Foreign Aid Rifles", I thought I'd show the M38 that sparked my questions. I've owned this rifle for about 30 years, and being Canadian, there are no import marks. It is a 1944 M38 that has been refurbished by the Soviets, but clearly saw some h...

Re: Refurb and foreign aid
I'm in Canada, so none of our stuff has any import markings. This M38 has a wartime stock, stitched dog collars(also wartime era I believe), and very little bluing left. There is no weathering that is typical of Vietnam use. Are there any identifiers that would point specifically to Romanian service...

Re: Refurb and foreign aid
Thanks JYD. That's great info. Based on that I would guess my M38 must have come out of Romania. It has refurb markings, but has seen considerable hard usage afterward.

Refurb and foreign aid
Virtually all of the Mosin's we have are Soviet refurbs. What about the ones provided as foreign aid throughout the years? Were they all supplied from stocks of stored refurbs, or would they have been delivered in "original condition"? Just curious as to what might have been provided to ot...

Re: Barbed Wire cutter
Yes, they're seldom seen these days. I wonder if that means only a few were made, or, if lots were made but only a few survived.
Either way, when found they're a unique Mosin accessory

Barbed Wire cutter
Does anyone know how prevalent the Mosin wire cutter attachment in ww1 was? I understand the Lee Enfield version was short lived as it was good in theory but poor in practical use. Was it the same for the Russian version on the eastern front? Thanks.

M1891 World War 1 Veteran
Want to share some pics of my favorite Mosin. It's an M1891 "Peter The Great", made in 1916, with Austrian capture marks, and a Finnish SA stamp. Most likely it was used by the Russians in the trenches prior to being captured, then years later making it's way to the Finns where it was prob...
